Connectors - Mini-UHF

Mini-UHF (MUHF) Connectors – The Mini-UHF connector is a compact threaded RF coaxial connector developed for applications where the larger conventional UHF connector would take up too much space. Mini-UHF became particularly popular as mobile and communications equipment became smaller, including early mobile cellular equipment, two-way radios, and other compact RF devices.

The Mini-UHF connector uses a 3/8"-24 thread. Although its name and general purpose are related to the larger UHF connector family, Mini-UHF and standard UHF (PL-259/SO-239) connectors are different interfaces and cannot be directly mated.

Mini-UHF is a 50 Ohm RF connector and provides better controlled-impedance RF performance than the traditional larger UHF connector. This makes it useful for VHF and UHF communications equipment and other applications where compact size and good RF performance are desirable.

Mini-UHF connectors have been widely used on commercial and public-safety two-way radios, land-mobile-radio equipment, mobile antennas, cellular equipment, RF accessories, and other compact communications equipment. They are especially familiar to users of mobile radio equipment where rear-panel space is limited.

When selecting a Mini-UHF connector, verify the connector gender, cable type, cable dimensions, and attachment method. Connectors that appear similar may be designed for different coaxial cable sizes, and the proper connector should be matched to the cable being used.

HEX Crimp Die Sizes* for Ferrules on Common RF Cables:

.429" – LMR-400, RG-8/11/213/214, Belden 8214/9913
.255" – LMR-240, RG-6/8X/59/62/223
.213" – LMR-195/200, RG-58/142/400
.178" – LMR-100/110, RG-174/178/188/196

*The hex sizes shown are nominal/common sizes only. Crimp dimensions can vary by connector manufacturer and individual connector design. When the proper crimp size is not known, verify it with the connector manufacturer or the specifications for that particular connector before crimping.

The majority of our brand center RF pins are designed to be soldered rather than crimped.
