About the book*:
Tesla: Man Out of Time by Margaret Cheney is a comprehensive biography that delves into the life of Nikola Tesla, one of history's most inventive and enigmatic minds. First published in 1981, the book offers a detailed account of Tesla's journey from his early years in the Austro-Hungarian Empire to his later life in New York City, where he passed away in 1943.
Overview
Cheney's narrative focuses on Tesla's personality, eccentricities, and visionary ideas rather than just his technical achievements. She paints a portrait of a man who was both a genius and an outsider, often misunderstood and underappreciated in his time. Tesla's innovations, such as the development of alternating current (AC) electricity, wireless communication, and early concepts of robotics and missile technology, are explored in depth. The biography also touches upon his personal life, including his social interactions and the challenges he faced in securing funding for his projects.
Reception
The book has been praised for its thorough research and engaging writing style. Critics have noted that Cheney succeeds in bringing Tesla's complex character to life, providing readers with a nuanced understanding of his contributions and struggles. However, some have pointed out that the biography may not fully capture the scientific depth of Tesla's work, focusing more on his personal traits and the circumstances surrounding his inventions.
Overall, Tesla: Man Out of Time serves as an accessible introduction to the life and legacy of Nikola Tesla, offering insights into the man behind the inventions that have shaped modern technology.
We actually have the book and take a look at it to determine the book's condition. We ship in protective packing to ensure it arrives in the best possible shape during shipping.
While we try to indicate the condition of all books, used books may have publisher or retail store merchant price stickers, writing or residuals or original pricing imprints and those may not be indicative of and differ from current pricing. Used books may have original or owners name, etc written or stamped in book. Stickers such as original or old pricing, inventory, etc may still be on the book as well as spots where the sticker has been previously removed. We do our best to describe the book in the condition notes above as well. Subject to shelf wear, the picture is the actual item photo. If we have more than one, we will endeavor to show the worst book or list separately. Pricing is based on today's value and not old price stickers.
We pack and ship with care! We do this right, unlike some of the other mega warehouse sellers who really haven't even looked at the book and then toss it in a cheap bag for shipping. We do better than that, and we suspect you expect better if you collect and value good books.
